Pharmacy & Self-Care

Pharmacists are qualified healthcare professionals who can offer clinical advice, over the counter medicines and their use, to effectively and safely manage a range of minor health concerns. They can also help you to decide whether you'll need to see a doctor. You don't need an appointment and you won't even be asked to make a purchase. Every pharmacy also has a private consultation area for you to talk about your symptoms in private if you prefer.

I need a blood or other type of test.

If blood or other tests are required, please tell the receptionist as we need to ensure these samples are taken earlier in the day to enable them to go to the hospital for processing the same day. Blood tests cannot be performed after 2pm on Fridays.

Routine Appointments

I have a non-urgent problem and can wait up to 6 weeks to be seen.

If your condition is non-urgent, you have the option to book a routine appointment up to 6 weeks in advance with a Doctor or Nurse of your choice if this is more convenient for you.

Nurses based in our practice treat patients for a wide range of common conditions. You can expect to see a nurse within one working day and all of them are qualified to prescribe from a range of medicines.

Let us know if more than one person in the family needs to be seen. We can give you a longer appointment if necessary. Tell us if you want someone to accompany you during an examination or a private room to discuss any matters.

Urgent (same day)

I have an URGENT health concern requiring on the day attention

Our Duty Team are available from 8am to 6.30pm.

If you require an urgent appointment with a GP or Advanced Nurse Practitioner and it needs to be dealt with sooner than the next routine appointment, you will be asked to provide a brief description of your problem by the receptionist and a telephone number that you can be contacted on between given times.

A member of the Duty Team will call you back during a pre-arranged time slot and agree the most appropriate course of action with you. This may be an appointment later in the day with a GP or Advanced Nurse Practitioner, or the matter may be sorted over the phone without the need for you to see a clinician.

The aim of the Duty Team is to ensure patients are seen by the most appropriate clinician in the most appropriate time frame for the presenting ailment.

Life Threatening - Go to A&E

If you or someone you know has a life-threatening condition, such as loss of consciousness, chest pain, breathing difficulties etc, you should call 999

In an EMERGENCY call 999.
Emergencies are situations that cannot be managed at home and may be life threatening

Please note the following test/checks require either a 20 or 30 minute appointment slots:

  • Smear Test
  • Asthma Check
  • Diabetes Check
  • Doppler Test
  • Immunisations
  • ECG Test
  • IUD Check
  • Travel Health

Registering for Online Services

You can now choose to sign up for Patient Access to use the internet to book GP appointments, request prescriptions for regular medications and look at your medical record online. This may help you to manage your medical conditions and you can even access it abroad should you require medical treatment on holiday.

Anyone over the age of 16 can apply and proxy applications can be made by relatives looking after patients who do not have mental capacity.

You will be given login details and you will need to think of a password which is unique to you. This will ensure that only you are able to access your record – unless you choose to share your details with a family member or carer.

If you would like to sign up for Online Patient Services, you will be able to:

  • Make an appointment
  • Order your repeat prescriptions
  • Cancel an appointment
  • Change your contact details
  • Review your medications and known allergies

We will need to check your photo ID and proof of address as part of the application process as you will be able to see detailed confidential information from your medical record. The practice must ensure that access is only being granted to yourself or your authorised proxy.

Application for Online Services

When applying for online services please ensure photo ID and proof of address is presented at the practice within 2 weeks of application.

Patient Participation Group

We are an advisory group of patients whose members work voluntarily with the surgery, acting as ‘critical friends’ to help the practice improve services for the patient population.

Whilst the group aims to be representative of the patient users of the practice services, the members are not considered delegates of the population and it is recognised that the views expressed are based on their own experiences.
