Pharmacy & Self-Care

Pharmacists are qualified healthcare professionals who can offer clinical advice, over the counter medicines and their use, to effectively and safely manage a range of minor health concerns. They can also help you to decide whether you'll need to see a doctor. You don't need an appointment and you won't even be asked to make a purchase. Every pharmacy also has a private consultation area for you to talk about your symptoms in private if you prefer.

GP Appointments

What is Total Triage?

Total Triage is the way we now manage access to our GP services to ensure everyone gets the right care, at the right time, from the right person.

Under Total Triage, every request — whether it’s for an appointment, advice, or support — is reviewed (or "triaged") first by a member of our clinical team. This helps us understand your needs and decide the best way to help you.

How it works:
  1. You contact us first — You can get in touch online, by phone, or in person. We’ll ask you for a few questions about the reason for your request.
  2. A clinician reviews your request — A GP or clinician will look at your information to decide how urgent your issue is and what kind of appointment or advice you need.
  3. We respond with next steps — We might offer you a face-to-face appointment, a telephone consultation, send a prescription, or direct you to another service that’s better suited to your health needs.
Why we use Total Triage:
  • It ensures patients who need urgent care are seen quickly.

  • It reduces unnecessary waiting times.

  • It helps you access the right care – whether that’s seeing a doctor, nurse, pharmacist, or another health professional.

  • It supports safe, fair, and more efficient use of GP services.

What it means for you:
  • You might not always need to come into the surgery.

  • You will still get the care you need, but it might be delivered in different ways — such as a phone call, video consultation, or through advice sent electronically.

  • If you need to be seen face-to-face, we will arrange it.

We understand change can feel a little different at first, but Total Triage is designed to make your experience quicker, safer, and more convenient.

If you’re unsure or need help with accessing care, our reception team is here to support you.

Home Visits

Patients are requested, where possible, to telephone before 10:30 am if a home visit is required that day.

Please note that the doctor may telephone you rather than visit you if this is medically appropriate. Ultimately it is the doctors right to decide whether or not a visit is appropriate for a particular set of circumstances.

Musculoskeletal Specialist

A First Contact Practitioner (FCP) are the first point of contact for patients who have musculoskeletal issues, such as joint pain, back problems, or sports injuries. They assess, diagnose, and manage these conditions without the patient needing to see a GP first.

An FCP can help with:

  • Assessing and diagnosing musculoskeletal conditions.

  • Providing appropriate treatment and management plans, including physical therapy and exercise programs.

  • Referring patients to specialists, such as orthopedic surgeons, if necessary.

  • Offering advice on lifestyle changes to manage pain or prevent future injury.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need to give information about my problem when I contact the surgery?

We ask for a brief description of your issue so our clinical team can assess the urgency and type of care you need. It helps us make sure you’re seen by the right person, at the right time. All information is treated confidentially.

Who reviews my request?

A trained clinician (such as a GP or advanced nurse practitioner) reviews every request to decide the most appropriate next step for you.

Will I still be able to see a GP if I need to?

Yes. If after reviewing your request it’s decided that you need a face-to-face GP appointment, we will arrange one for you.

What happens if my problem is urgent?

Urgent cases are prioritised. If your issue needs same-day attention, you will be contacted promptly and offered appropriate care.

How do I contact the practice if I don’t have internet access?

You can still call or visit the practice in person. Our reception team will complete the triage information with you to make sure you get the right help.

What if I need to speak to a specific doctor?

We’ll do our best to accommodate requests for a particular doctor, but depending on availability and urgency, you might be offered care by another suitable clinician.

Is Total Triage safe?

Yes. Total Triage is designed to enhance patient safety by ensuring all requests are clinically assessed. It helps us spot urgent issues faster and provide the right level of care for everyone.

Will this save me time?

In many cases, yes! You might receive the advice or prescription you need without having to visit the surgery, saving you time and effort.
