Anti-coagulation Clinic (Warfarin monitoring)

We hold dedicated anti-coagulation clinics every Tuesday and Wednesday.  This is a one-stop visit where we undertake a finger-prick blood test, give you the result and advise you of any dose change all within a 10 minute appointment.

Emergency Contraception (Morning After Pill)

The morning after pill has to be taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. Monday – Friday you are able to obtain the Morning After Pill at Somerset Bridge Medical Centre. At weekends or bank holidays please refer to your local pharmacist or out of hours.  You should never have difficulties in obtaining the morning after pill at Somerset Bridge. You only have to tell the Receptionist that it is essential that you see the doctor today, you do not have to tell her why.

Family Planning & Contraception Care

All the doctors and practice nurses provide family planning and contraception advice as appropriate within their normal appointments. Emergency contraception is available. Coil removals need to be carried out by a doctor.

The Practice also provides the contraceptive implant ‘Implanon’ for those patients registered with the Practice. Please book a routine GP appointment for this service.

Maternity Care

pregnant12A healthy pregnancy starts before you actually become pregnant. This is especially so if you need to take any regular medication.

As soon as you know you are pregnant, please telephone or pop into the surgery to complete a Midwife referral form so that we can start your antenatal care. Your midwife and health visitor help your doctor to manage your care. Don't forget that after you have had your baby you will also need a post natal check at about 6 weeks.

Child Development & Immunisation

All doctors in the practice provide child health surveillance facilities and development checks. They are usually done during normal surgery appointments. Some checks will be done by the heath visitors. It is important that all children and babies are fully immunised. Please do not hesitate to ask our practice nurse, your doctor or a health visitor. To see the current recommended immunisation schedule visit: www.immunisation.nhs.uk/Immunisation_Schedule.
